Copenhagen is a beautiful, clean city, with an abundance of people getting round by bike. The capital of Denmark sits on the coastal islands of Zealand and Amager. The airport is just a 15 minute direct train journey to the central station, and getting around is simple.
Most attractions are walkable, but should you start to feel tired, then pop on one of the regular busses, or look to get a Hop On, Hop Off bus tour. With stops all around the main attractions you literally can hop on and hop off whenever you like.
It’s a must visit place, with beautiful architecture and amazing designs, it’s a creative persons dream location. Home to the Danish Museum of Art & Design you can see why Copenhagen is dubbed the design capital of the world.
Home to the novelist Hans Christian Andersen, he wrote may fairytale stories like ‘The Ugly Duckling’, ‘Thumbelina’ and probably the most famous of all thanks to Walt Disney, ‘The Little Mermaid’. The little mermaid bronze statue can be found on a rock by the water edge at the Langelinie promenade.
Tivoli Gardens is another must, filled with amusement rides, twinkling pavilions and open-air shows, it’s great for adults and kids alike. Other attractions include visiting the Royal Palace, sightseeing boat and bus tours, or just taking a stroll down past the colourful houses and the boats in Nyhavn.
It is well worth checking out the Copenhagen Card if you plan on visiting quite a few of the attractions in the city. To make sure it does actually save you money make a list of the places you want to visit and tick off how many are on the list of the Copenhagen card. In some cases you are better off paying individually for entrance to these places.
If you’re feeling a bit peckish from all the walking then you’ll be spoilt for choice on places to eat, from Michelin-starred restaurants, to specialty burger joints, there is plenty to pick from.
You can’t go wrong with a visit to Copenhagen, a beautiful city that I’m sure you will fall in love with. It is ideal for a long weekend break, or stay a little longer and take you time to take it all in.
